"We've been waiting half a century" for promotion to the top division, rejoiced Pierre Ferracci, president of Paris FC, on franceinfo, as the club will be promoted to Ligue 1 next season, following its draw against Martigues on Friday, May 2. It had been 45 years since the club had played in this league.
He emphasizes "an achievement, because the work has been very difficult during these twelve years [he took over the club in 2012]. We were in the play-offs four times, we lost the play-offs," he recalls, "but it's a great stage that is coming to an end and there are promising prospects with the arrival of the Arnault family and Red Bull in the club's capital." Last November, the Arnault family, owner of LVMH, bought the club, alongside Red Bull, a minority shareholder.
"We've been waiting for Ligue 1 for half a century, and we've been waiting for a second club in Paris for just as long, because alongside us, there's a giant with extremely powerful resources, and I wish him the best in the Champions League, as he might just go all the way this year," said the Paris FC president.
As for our objectives, "we will first try to stay in the league," because he recognizes that despite "powerful investors and shareholders, Ligue 1 is difficult." "It's certain that the [Arnault] family will have high ambitions and that at some point, after establishing themselves in the top half of the league, they will aim for Europe, but initially, we will simply try to stay in the league," pleads Pierre Ferracci.
Fans will once again be able to experience Parisian derbies, something the Paris FC president is delighted about. "First of all, it's going to be exciting. Football is a lot about reason, but also a lot of passion. And derbies are there to spice up these championships," he smiles.
